Gander's aim is full goose embodiment. What is that? Your head is the goose's. Your arms are its wings, and if you like, you can actually honk to honk. Or yell any expletive of your choice, which is what I imagine geese are actually saying when they are being horrible.
Local two-player mode is still supported, with one player on keyboard and mouse or a controller and the other in VR. Your movements are mirrored on your flatscreen goose.
If you'd like a less embodied experience, you can toggle to a tabletop view, which lets you look down on yourself in third person.
You need Windows, Untitled Goose Game (preferably on Steam, though other installs should work), and a PCVR headset. Steam should be running if you want achievements.
- Download Gander. It's just the one file.
- Run it. It finds the game, installs everything it needs under
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Gander, and adds a shortcut. - Put the headset on and start Gander from the shortcut. It starts the game by itself after a short count.
Nothing is written into the game's own folder, and Steam's Play button still starts the flat game. To uninstall it, remove Gander in Add or remove programs.
Gander is a fan mod. House House didn't make it, and probably hasn't even seen it. If they do, I hope it makes them smile as much as it made me smile while making it. Gander is free. See the license and third-party notices for more details.
